Principle of Operation:

The solar module(s) of the system converts sin light into DC power. This DC power is used to charge the Lead Acid battery. During the night time the DC power from the battery is inverted to high frequency AC by the inverter and is fed to the CFL (compact Fluorescent lamp). Dusk to dawn sensing circuit will determine the CFL glowing hours. Charge controller as a part of the electronics will monitor the battery operating conditions and improve the battery performance and life.

Definition:

A stand alone solar photovoltaic street lighting system, comprises of a 11 W / 18 W compact fluorescent lamp, Low maintenance lead acid battery or Maintenance free lead acid battery, PV module(s), Control electronics, Interconnecting wires/cables, Pole, Module(s) mounting hardware, Battery box, instruction and maintenance manual.

The system designed to switch ON the system at dusk, operate throughout the night and switches OFF at dawn, automatically.

Lamp:

The light output from 11 WCFL is about 900 lumens and from 18W CFL is about 1200 lumens.

PV Module:
  1. The wattage range of the PV modules as given in above Model is at 16.40 Volts under standard test conditions (STC).
  2. PV Module ratings: 12V / 80W for 11W Luminary at STC and 12V / 100W for 18W Luminary at STC.

Battery:
  • Low Maintenance or Maintenance free lead acid battery.
  • The battery will have a minimum rating of 12V 80 / 65 Ah (at C/10) discharge rate for 11 W operation and 12V / 120 / 100Ah for 18 W operation.

Electronic Protections:
  • Adequate protection is incorporated under no load conditions e.g. when the lamps are removed and the system is switched ON.
  • The system has protection against battery overcharge and deep discharge conditions.
  • Fuse provided to protect against short circuits.
  • A blocking diode provided as part of the electronics to prevent reverse flow of current through the PV module(s).
  • Full protection against open circuit accidental short circuit and reverse polarity is provided.
Mechanical Components:
  • Galvanized Metallic frame structure fixed on the Pole to hold the SPV Module(s). The frame structure will have provision to adjust its angle of inclination to the horizontal between 0 to 90 deg. So that it can be installed at the specified tilt angle.
  • The pole is of mild steel pipe with a height of 4 meters above the ground level after grounding and final installation. The pole will have the provision to hold the all weatherproof lamp housing.
  • A vented acid proof and corrosion resistant (Galvanized) metallic box for outdoor use provided for housing the battery.
